Kevin Ware's Injury

Speaking from experience the injury to Kevin Ware during the Louisville-Duke game was one of the most gruesome injuries that I have seen or witnessed.
Now I had the exact same injury that Ware had minus the fact that Ware's bone was sticking through the skin.
If you haven't seen the video its online on the Yahoo home page but be warned its really graphic.
When I broke the same bones during my senior year of high school they had to place a rod and screws down the bone to set it. I've heard reports that say he could be back in 3 months if all goes perfect but speaking from experience it is more like a 5-7 month recovery process; and that is just to get back to some mussel in the calf and thing.
To get back to the level of play it will take most likely 8-10 months to get back to were he was at.
No matter how devastating the injury one thing comes to mind when you see the video and that is if the game was not played on an elevated court would the injury have happen or been as severe.
If you watch the video you see that Ware realizes if he keeps running like a normal basketball play and not try to stop mid air he would have landed in the bench a few feet below the court. The second thing you could see was Ware tried to spot his landing and that is when he lands awkwardly. Elevated courts have been all the rage because of the possibility that the NCAA tournament could be played in bigger venues, but the elevated floors now present possible unforeseen problems.
I'm not saying the floor cause the injury, but it could have contributed.
All the best to Ware in his recovery because it is going to be a long and painful road.
